''World''s Largest'': Chinese Company Installs 15-MW
A Chinese company has installed what it calls the world''s largest onshore wind turbine.
Based on an average annual wind speed of 9 meters per second, SANY Renewable Energy's 15 MW onshore turbine can generate up to 56 million kWh of electricity per year. As the first wind turbine manufacturer to unveil a 15 MW onshore turbine, SANY Renewable Energy has prioritized long-term reliability over rapid deployment.
The 15MW prototype was installed earlier this week in northeast China's Jilin Province. The lovingly named SI-270150 turbine features 430-ft-long blades (131 m), making for a maximum swept area of 616,298 sq ft (57,256 sq m). That's equivalent to nearly 11 American football fields.
Chinese wind turbine manufacturer Sany has demonstrated that the world's largest onshore turbine delivers a power rating of 15 MW as promised.
