The Italian market for BESS is growing rapidly and currently amounts to 2.3 GW but it almost exclusively consists of residential scale systems, associated with small scale solar plants, having an average capacity of less than 20 kWh.

As of March 2025, Italy has got 1GW of grid-scale BESS capacity online, placing the country in third place in Europe (shared with Ireland) in terms of installed capacity, behind Germany (1.6GW) and the UK (5.6GW).
